The city writes (on) the walls: The linguistic landscape of Thessaloniki

The research aim on linguistic landscape, which is carried out in the framework of the German Mediterranean Network on Linguistics („Deutsch-Mittelmeerisches Netzwerk Sprachwissenschaft”), a research network funded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (2017 Humboldt Alumni Award for Innovative Networking Initiatives to Αthina Sioupi) and of the Lab for Language Research and Didactics, with the participation of students of our Department, is the (photographic) collection of linguistic material from the city of Thessaloniki, but also from other cities, its archiving and the compilation of a textual corpus in order to analyze the linguistic landscape of specific socially defined spaces (e.g. schools, universities, specific neighborhoods of the urban landscape), from a multiperspectival and comparative point of view.
